The stud was established when Judith was fourteen years old when her father purchased two mares. The first was purchased in Fayre Oaks as a three year old, Friars Spring Maid (Friars Ranger x Friars Lowland Flower), the second came via Hay-on-Wye. This was Fieldcote Granny’s Bonnet (Tywford Darwin x Fieldcote Blaze of Fire). Friars Fairy Tale (Friars Commander x Friars Good Luck) came through Fayre Oaks in 1981 and all three mares have direct female lines in the stud today.
Other mares such as Baledon Lark (Revel Janus x Crossways Blue Tit); Friars Glesni ( Caeronnen Dafydd X Friars Good Luck) and Friars Iceburg (Penhwyllys Ceri x Friars Model) have each played a part in shaping the ponies of today.
